Marios Georgiou Earns Third Olympic Birth Alongside European Title

April 24, 2024

Cypriot gymnast, Marios Georgiou, led the all-around standings after the second subdivision at the 2024 European Championships. He led over big names like Olympic silver medalist, Oleg Verniaiev, but would need to wait as some of the the best gymnasts in the world would be competing in the third subdivision. Watching from the stands, Georgiou saw his name still at the top of the standings at the end of the third subdivision and he knew history had been made. Not only had he won Cyprus' first all-around gold medal at a European Championships, but he had also secured his third Olympic birth.

This medal is Georgiou's fourth major all-around medal; he previously won bronze medalst at the 2019 European Championships, and the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
