This competition was notable as five of the six individual Olympic champions from Tokyo returned to defend their titles. (There are seven individual events, but Hashimoto Daiki of Japan won two in Tokyo.) The returning champions are Hashimoto Daiki from Japan in the all-around and high bar, Artem Dolgopyat of Israel on floor exercise, Max Whitlock of Great Britain on pommel horse, Liu Yang of China on rings, and Zou Jingyuan of China on parallel bars.

Each of these athletes successfully advanced to the finals, earning the opportunity to defend their Olympic titles and compete for another gold medal. Hashimoto, however, will only have the opportunity to defend his All-Around medal, as he did not advance to the high bar final. The competition took place at Bercy Arena in Paris, France, along the river Seine. Gymnastics competition will resume on July 29 with the Men’s Team final, with the next individual event being the all around final on July 31st. A full schedule of the medal events is available in the Neutral Deductions Olympic Watch Guide.
