Igor Radivilov Retires

December 1, 2024

Ukranian gymnastics legend, Igor Radivilov, has announced his retirement from gymnastics. During his 17-year tenure on the Ukranian National Gymanstics Team, Radivilov won a bronze medal on vault at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and four world medals on the same event between 2014 and 2022. Aside from his success on vault, he is also known for submitting arguably the scariest vault ever to have been attempted.

At the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Radivilov submited the handspring triple tuck vault. His aim in competed the vault was to aid him in winning a medal; however, he also acknowledged the liklihood that the skill would be banned due to risk of injury. In the end, the International Federation of Gymnastics did choose to ban the skill.

While he will no longer compete in elite gymnastics, it is expected that he will still be present at international competitions as a coach. Igor Radivilov was nominated by Stella Zakharova to be the new head men's artistic gymnatics coach in Ukraine and will likely assume that role early next year.
