Great Britain Announces Five Member Team for Paris Olympics

Max Whitlock, Joe Fraser will return to the Olympic Games

June 13, 2024

British Gymnastics has named their five member team for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The team will feature Joe Fraser, Harry Hepworth, Jake Jarman, Luke Whitehouse and Max Whitlock. Max Whitlock, a six-time Olympic medalist, will lead the team in Paris, which will be his final Olympic Games.

In a statement to British Gymnastics, Whitlock said

“Every Olympics is different to the one before, but the amazing thing about Paris is that it's the closest we will have to a home games since London 2012, having such a small time difference, being so close to the UK and having a crowd will give the whole team a massive boost. It’s a really exciting time for the gymnasts that are heading into their first Olympics, it’s going to be incredible. I’m starting to feel a real buzz around Paris, I think it’s going to be a good Olympic Games.”

Joining Whitlock, is 2020 Olympian, Joe Fraser, who will compete in his second consecutive Olympic Games. Fraser sat out of the 2023 World Championships with an injury but came back strong to win the 2024 British Championships.

Jake Jarman, Harry Hepworth, and Luke Whitehouse will all compete in their first Olympic Games. Jarman secured his place on the 2024 Olympic team with strong performances globally. He was a reserve for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and has since become British, European, and World Vault Champion. Hepworth was standout at the 2023 World Championships making three event finals, the most of any on the British Team. While likely only contributing on three events, Hepworth is expected to once again make several event finals.

Newcomer, Luke Whitehouse was a surprise for the team. Originally, an alternate for the 2024 European Championships, he was substituted in when Max Whitlock chose not to compete due to injury. There, Whitehouse secured his second, consecutive European title on floor where he beat reigning Olympic and World Champion, Artem Dolgopyat.

Opening ceremonies for the 2024 Paris Olympcis will kick off on Friday, July 26.
