The German National Gymnastics Championships took place on June 8, 2024. Olympic Silver Medalist and World Champion, Lukas Dauser brought home his fourth national all-around championships this past weekend. The German star tallied 82.765 points to beat Olympian, Andy Toba, and junior world silver medalist, Timo Eder. World team member, Nick Klessing, withdrew from the competition with a shoulder injury.

Dauser also took the national title on parallel bars, his signature event, with a 15.500 – almost 1.5 points ahead of Glenn Trebing in 2nd. Each of the six events was won by a different athlete. Pascal Brendel won floor (14.325), Daniel Mousichidis won pommel horse (14.225), Artur Sahakyan won still rings (14.050), Felix Remuta won vault (14.025), and Andy Toba won high bar (14.475).

Olympic Team Selection

These championships served as the first part of the German Olympic Qualifications. The second part of quallifying will take place on June 22, 2024. The German selection procedures indicate that athletes who demonstrate medal winning routines at the two qualifying competitions will be selected for the German Olympic team. Only Lukas Dauser reached that feat on the parallel bars. Since he already demonstrated his potential at an major international event, should he repeat these results at the second qualifying event, he will be considered a lock for the Olympic team.

The German Selection Committee will then use data from the two comeptitions to select the highest scoring team. If the results are not clear, they will then consider some discretionary criteria including, but not limited to athletes' abilities, restrictions, and ability to perform under pressure.
